Facilities

Several Lafayette outdoor sports compete and practice at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex, including cross country, field hockey, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, softball and track and field. Permanent seating for more than 1,000 spectators is available at the baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey venues. Located about three miles northwest of the College Hill campus, the field is part of an 80-acre facility which also contains fields for many of the intramural and recreational sports programs.

The Metzgar Campus has hosted a number of NCAA, ECAC, and Patriot League championships in recent years, including three rounds of the 1995 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, and the 1991 and 1993 ECAC Division I Field Hockey Championships.

A central point of the Metzgar Campus is the Kamine Varsity House, which features state-of-the-art team rooms for baseball, field hockey, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's cross country/track & field, women's cross country/track & field and softball. Each team room is appointed with furniture and flat-panel video monitors as well as internet access. The facility renovation also includes locker facilities for visiting teams, officials and Lafayette's coaching staff as well as an air-conditioned training room with two whirlpools, an ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulator unit, and many pieces of rehabilitative equipment. Named in honor of Harold N. Kamine '78 and Kathleen Coogan Kamine '78, the Kamine Varsity House was created through the $2.5 million renovation and complete refurbishing of the McCracken Varsity House, which was constructed in 1969-70 and expanded in 1976-77. The new facility includes a plaque honoring G. Herbert and Helen K. McCracken, for whom the facility was named in 1973.
