EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette held a 25-21 edge in shots, but Adam Fullerton made 14 saves for Army and four first-half goals were enough for the Black Knights in a 4-1 victory in Patriot League men's lacrosse on Tuesday night at Rappolt Field.

Matt Scheel put Army (3-3, 1-1) on the scoreboard 2:28 into the match on an assist from Mike Obringer following a quick clear by the Black Knights. Kevin LaRusso followed less than two minutes later, scoring on a pass from All-American John Walker, to give Army a pair of goals on its first two shots.

The score remained 2-0 until Walker scored unassisted at 12:34 in the second quarter, and Jon Burton found the net with 1:32 remaining in the stanza to give Army a 4-0 lead at the half.

Army held a 16-13 advantage in shots in the first half, then slowed the pace to protect its lead, firing just five shots after intermission. Lafayette (1-5, 0-2) kept the pressure on, testing Fullerton seven times in the third period, but the Black Knights' goalkeeper came up with six saves and turned away three man-up situations.

The Leopards finally broke through on an extra-man opportunity with 7:55 left in the fourth, as Sean Burek deposited a pass from John Galassi for his seventh goal of the season. Army used a 9-for-9 performance on clears in the second half, including 5-of-5 in the fourth quarter, to keep Lafayette at arms length.

Freshman goalie Jeff Canfield made 12 saves and claimed eight of the Leopards' 24 ground balls, while his counterpart was nearly flawless in notching Army's third win of the season.

Lafayette will return to action on Saturday at Bucknell in a match that will televised live by the Lafayette Sports Network. National coverage on CSTV (DIRECTV Channel 610, DISH Network 152) and the local telecasts on RCN-4 and WBPH-60 in the Lehigh Valley will begin at 1 p.m. from Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.
